East No. 2 Millbrook routs West No. 4 Ben L. Smith in showcase finale

The Millbrook Wildcats remained unbeaten for the season and in games at their showcase with an 83-64 win over the Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles on Saturday night.

The Wildcats asserted full control of the game from the get-go.

Millbrook scored 23 points in the first quarter while its defense held the Golden Eagles to just 10.

Millbrook dominated all game long in the paint, as big man Will Felton, undersized big Jalen McCoy and Eric van der Heijden carried an offense that would not be denied inside.

Van der Heijden and Zach Miller knocked down three-pointers to help get the run going.

Felton really got going with 10 points in the second quarter, as Smith did not have an answer for his post moves and finish inside.

The Wildcats took a 43-30 lead into the halftime break as the Golden Eagles got their offense going with a 20-point effort in the second quarter.

Point guard Khalid Hines scored seven points in the quarter for Smith as part of his season-high 20 for the game.

Three-star forward Silas Mason put home an impressive dunk as well.

Millbrook re-established its dominance in the third quarter. McCoy put in four buckets for an eight-point quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Golden Eagles 22-11 to put the game out of reach.

Felton finished the game with 29 points to lead all scorers. McCoy had 18 for second on the team, while van der Heijden was the only other Wildcat in double figures at 12.

Hines led the Eagles with 20 points, while Mason was just behind at 18. Isaiah Moore also hit double figures at 10.

Millbrook will try to stay perfect in its Cap-7 conference opener against Southeast Raleigh next week.
