Millbrook completes first perfect regular season in school history, tops Broughton


Millbrook completed its first perfect regular season in school history Friday night with a 76-64 win over Broughton to spoil the Caps senior night.

“Amazing, amazing, amazing,” Millbrook head coach Chris Davis said. “We are not down by any stretch but this is special and I’m really excited for our kids.”

The game was close throughout the first quarter. Millbrook jumped out to an early lead but timely three point shooting allowed the Caps to cut the deficit down to 16-15 at the end of the first eight minutes of play.

Broughton took the lead early in the second quarter but Phillip Burwell took over from there for Millbrook. The senior leader scored 20 points in the first half as the a Wildcats took a 33-27 lead into the half time break.

The third quarter went back and fourth. Millbrook extended its lead to double digits but Broughton fought back to take a 43-40 lead. The Wildcats answered with a run of their own to lead 55-46 heading into the final quarter of the game.

Millbrook took care of business in the last eight minutes. The Wildcats slowed the pace down and protected the ball in the fourth quarter. Millbrook extended its lead in the fourth and finished off its perfect regular season with a 12 point win.

Burwell got into foul trouble in the second half and ended the night with 22 points to lead the Millbrook. Will Felton contributed 14 points in the win.

“Our senior guards lead us,” Davis said. “Phil, Isaiah, and Colin are tremendous players and they stepped up tonight when we needed them.”

Broughton’s DJ Thomas was the leading scorer in the game with 26 points and Penn Sealey scored 13 points for the Caps.

Both teams will be in the CAP-7 conference tournament next week.
