Offensive onslaught leads Millbrook to victory at Leesville Road


No. 1 Millbrook built a 20-point lead at the half and never looked back as it defeated conference foe Leesville Road 86-45 on Friday night.

With two of their top seven scorers out of the lineup, the Wildcats saw four players finish in double-figures.

Collin Lewis opened the scoring with five of Millbrook’s first 10 points. Phillip Burwell and Jai McRae scored four points each to end the frame and Millbrook led 19-8 through one.

Leesville Road received six second-quarter points from Deon Daniels as it attempted to narrow its deficit. Burwell answered with six points of his own and entered the half with six assists after connecting with William Felton and Isaiah Lewis for a combined 14 points in the stanza.

Millbrook lead 44-24 at the half and inflated the lead to as much as 31 points in the third quarter. RJ Wilson, who led the all scorers with 17 points, scored six in the period for the Pride.

3-point shooting proved to be big on Friday night as the Wildcats downed 13 treys opposed to none from Leesville Road. Isaiah Lewis poured in his third 3-point basket of the night to give Millbrook a 65-38 advantage after three.

The Pride managed to score only one field goal in the fourth quarter as Millbrook triggered a running clock following 3-point shots from Zach Miller, McRae and Parker Swisher.

McRae led the Wildcats in rebounds with a career-best 15. Adam Carey went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to finish with a career-high 13 points.

Millbrook was led in scoring by Felton’s 16 and Lewis’ 14. Burwell added 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Wildcats.

Chase Hakerem and Alec Carawan finished behind Wilson in scoring with eight points each. Leesville Road point guard Carter Whitt, who recently picked up a scholarship offer from NC State, was held to 2-of-10 from the field and tallied six points.

The Wildcats improve to 15-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Cap-7 Conference. Next week, Millbrook hosts Cardinal Gibbons and travels to Sanderson.

Leesville Road falls to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Pride will take on both Broughton and Southeast Raleigh next week.
