One of the most decorated Men's Basketball players in the history of Millbrook High School and Campbell University has once again declared for the NBA Draft. Chris Clemons (Millbrook Class of 2015) will go through the 2018 draft process without representation, allowing him to return for his senior season in Buies Creek if he elects to withdraw prior to June 11th.
Clemons is coming off of another historic season for the Fighting Camels after helping lead them to back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time in program history.
The fourth leading scorer in the country, Clemons earned All-District honors from the USBWA and NABC along with being named to the Lou Henson All-American team.
As a junior, Clemons cemented himself atop Campbell’s all-time scoring, field goals, and points per game lists. His 772 points during the 2017-18 season were only second to his Campbell record of 904 set as a sophomore. Three times he was named Big South Player of the Week, he won two games at the buzzer in the span of nine days, and on January 23rd he and Marcus Burk became the first two teammates in NCAA history to each hit 10 three-point baskets in a single game.
Through three collegiate seasons, Clemons has played in 97 career games and registered a total of 2,232 career points, 325 short of the most in the history of the Big South Conference.
In high school, Clemons finished as the second all-time leading scorer (1,230 points) in Millbrook High School history only to his teammate Robert Brown.
After averaging 13.4 points per game, earning Cap-8 Player of the Year honors, and leading Millbrook to its first regional final since 2011 as a junior, Clemons earned NCBCA first team All-District merits.
His senior campaign saw him set the school record for points in a season with 699, earn his second consecutive Cap-8 Player of the Year award, lead Millbrook back to its second consecutive regional final, pick up first team All-District honors once more, be named the district’s player of the year, and achieve first team All-State recognition.
Clemons holds the record at both Millbrook and Campbell for games with 30+ points scored. He scored in double figures in 45 of his last 46 high school games including each of his final 38 games played. He has scored 10 or more points in 96 of his 97 career games at Campbell including his last 82 which is currently the longest double-figure scoring streak in the country.
Clemons was a 99.9 FM The Fan Scholar Athlete of the Month recipient in high school, and took home Most Outstanding Player honors at the prestigious 2014 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational. He earned academic all-conference honors each season at Millbrook, and currently holds the school record for points in a game with 41.
At Campbell, Clemons holds the same record after scoring 51 points against UNC Asheville in the 2017 Big South Conference tournament, the first 50+ point conference tournament game in the country since Jimmer Fredette at BYU.
2018 will mark his second NBA Draft experience, last season Clemons earned workouts with both the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics before deciding to stay at Campbell. The Early Entry Withdrawal deadline for this year’s draft is June 11th, the draft will be held on June 21st.
Anton Gill Sr. (‘90), Jonathan Moore (‘00), Simon Harris (‘04), and Tyrrel Tate (‘10) are the only four alumni in the history of Millbrook’s Men’s Basketball program to play professional basketball, the Wildcats have never had an alum play in the NBA.
