Whitfield Drops 39 in Win Over Wakefield

On the heels of a game-winning layup against Broughton, Jordan Whitfield scored a career-high 39 points in a 75-63 victory over Wakefield on Tuesday evening. In front of his future head coach, Kevin McGeehan, the Campbell signee’s total came two points short of tying current Camel Chris Clemons’ school-record of 41 points scored.

Pull-up jump shots for the senior helped get the Wildcats out to a 6-0 lead before Wakefield closed the gap on a 6-0 run of their own. Adrian Scarborough converted on a three-point play, took a charge, and then gave way to Collin Lewis for two free throws to put Millbrook ahead 11-10 after a quarter.

The Wolverines kept pace in the first half behind a pair of baskets from Tyler Wilson, and scores from five different players. Whitfield took 13 points, and a 29-27 lead into the half after three made baskets, and a long-distance three point score.

Antonio Patterson scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the third quarter. On three occasions, he helped put Wakefield ahead with a lead that expanded to as a large as five. Whitfield managed to mount a comeback with eight points of his own to keep the score in Millbrook’s favor, 45-43.

The fourth quarter was Whitfield’s finest. Two three point baskets, two free throws, and five takes to the rim put the game out of hand. 18 points inflated his scoring total to 39, and Patrick Dorsey added six points in the final frame for 13 total. Dorsey has now scored in double-digits for nine straight contests.

Millbrook moves to 15-6 on the season, and 7-4 in the Cap-8 Conference. The Wildcats are on the road on Friday evening at Heritage at 7:00 PM.
