Millbrook breaks scoring record, hammers Trinity Academy 107-69

Millbrook closed the fifth annual Millbrook Showcase in style, routing Trinity Academy, 107-69, in the final game of the day.

In front of a rowdy Millbrook crowd, the Wildcats led 20-12 after one quarter, 47-27 at halftime and 79-44 after three frames. Millbrook flirted with forcing the 40-point mercy rule with its biggest lead of the game at 87-49 with 6:21 remaining before head coach Chris Davis pulled his starters.

After that, the only drama was whether Millbrook would hit the 100-point mark – and Parker Swisher’s 3-pointer with 1:58 left in the game gave the Wildcats a 100-66 lead.

“It was a great atmosphere tonight,” Davis said. “Having these showcases is a lot of work but there was a lot of great energy. To play with this much intensity and energy was so much fun.”

Six Wildcats – Isaiah Lewis (19 points), Sam Hood (14), Matthew McIntyre (14), Phillip Burwell (13), William Felton (12) and Jalen McCoy (11) – finished in double-figure scoring, with Swisher only falling one point shy of joining them.

The 107 points set a new showcase record, eclipsing the record of 103 points scored by Garner in 2015 against Neuse Christian.

“We were trying to play as fast as possible,” Davis said. “We have a lot of depth, so we feel like we can get the ball up and down the floor and create opportunities.”

Trinity (6-2), which was playing its fifth game in the past week, was led by Jake Bertolini-Felice’s 23 points, while heavily-recruited junior post player Isaiah Todd was held to 14 points. Sylvester White added 11 points for the Tigers.

A scary moment occurred when, with 4:34 remaining in the second quarter, Todd fell to the floor with a knee injury. He didn’t play again in the first half, but returned to start the second half for the Tigers.

“My knee just popped out of place and then popped back,” Todd said. “It wasn’t traumatizing or anything; I wanted to get back out there as fast as I could. But with my mom and my concerned coach, I had to go through steps to get back out there.”
