Wildcats go 3-0 in Queen City Classic

December 30, 2015

The Wildcats enjoyed a very unique holiday break as they took part in the 2015 North Myrtle Beach Shootout By The Sea Tournament and the 1st Annual Queen City Holiday Classic at Vance High School. After taking home the championship in South Carolina, Millbrook would turn in a very similar showing in Charlotte days later.

Game one of three day showcase event pitted Millbrook (MaxPreps' #1 4A team in North Carolina) against Ridge View (MaxPreps' #1 4A team in South Carolina). The Wildcats got off to a fast start and never looked back en route to the 70-52 win. Faison Brock continued his torrid double-double pace with a career high 25 points, along with 10 rebounds. Fellow senior, Rashad George also recorded a career high in points with 12.

With the win, Millbrook ventured into the winners bracket to face a battled tested Christ School team from Arden, NC. The Greenies play many of the state's top private school teams, and behind the strength of Tennessee commit, John Fulkerson's 26.9 PPG, they entered with a 7-5 record. Brock picked up where he left off with a strong first quarter. Patrick Dorsey heated up in the second to send Millbrook into the break with a 20 point lead. Dorsey went 3-3 from beyond the arc in the second stanza which would account for all 9 of his points. Jordan Whitfield took over the reigns in the second half with 9 of his team high 16 points. John Burwell was on the giving end of many of Whitfield's scores as he posted a career high 9 assists. Burwell, also grabbed 6 rebounds on the afternoon to accompany his 6 points. Brock had a late basket to finish with 11 points, just enough for another double-double after he racked up 13 rebounds, 4 of which came on the offensive glass. The Wildcats went on to win 61-44, setting up a match against Coolidge High School from the nation's capital.

Coolidge came out of the losers bracket, and they fell to 0-3 in the event with an 85-67 loss on the final day to Millbrook. Whitfield led the Wildcats in scoring with a season high 20 points, 15 coming in the first quarter of play. Burwell dished out 8 first quarter assists, and Millbrook posted 31 points in the opening frame. Faison Brock extended his eight game double-double streak with 13 points, and 10 board. Burwell also flirted with the NCHSAA history books by coming one rebound, and four steals short of the second quadruple-double in state history. The senior point guard would finish with 11 points, a career high 11 assists, a career high 9 rebounds, and 6 steals. Clayton High School's Gary Clark ('14) is the only recorded quadruple-double in the state record book. Sophomore, Adrian Scarborough added 6 points and 6 rebounds to the Millbrook stat line in the victory.

For the first time in school history, the Wildcats carry an undefeated record into the new year. Cap-8 play is all that stands between 12-0 Millbrook and potential postseason play. Conference play resumes on Tuesday, January 5th when the Wakefield Wolverines (3-9, 0-3) pay visit at 7PM. If Millbrook is able to come away victorious, it would extend their winning streak to thirteen straight which would be the longest in program history. Last time the two teams met, Millbrook won 104-66 behind Andrew Evans' career high 23 points.
